Steven Lamprell establishes Lamprell Jumairah in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
1978
Lamprell began operating from its first yard at Dubai Al Hamriya Port, focusing on ship repair, fabrication and marine support work. The facility served as the company’s operational base until 1981.
1981
Operations moved to a one-acre yard near the Galadari roundabout in Deira, rented from the Ruler’s Office. It served as Lamprell’s operational base through the 1980s and remained the main office until 1992.
1985
Lamprell completes its first rig conversion after securing its largest contract at the time from Hyundai Heavy Industries, transforming Penrod 56 into a 300-man accommodation unit for Saudi Offshore in a record 35 days.
1988
In 1988 Lamprell opened a significantly larger facility at Port Khalid in Sharjah to support expanding offshore and rig-related activity. This move marked the company’s transition into larger-scale fabrication and rig refurbishment projects. They later aquired more land nearby following the aquisition of Maritime Industrial Services (MIS) in 2011.
1989-90
For client Mansal Offshore, Lamprell converts 1966 LeTourneau designed rigs Murjan and Deema (formerly Penrod 56 and 57, respectively) into large-scale 400–480 man accommodation units supporting the development of Qatar’s North Field. At the time, these were the biggest conversions Lamprell had ever undertaken.

1996
Lamprell leased a small office and workshop at a Dubai Synchrolift Shipyard in Al Jaddaf to expand its marine repair capability. The facility carried out ship repairs, engine overhauls and mechanical work, before shifting increasingly toward oilfield and land rig repairs. Tim Lamprell, the youngest brother, joined to lead the Oilfield division, which moved to the Jebel Ali yard in 2005.
2002
Acquired and developed between 2001 and 2002, Lamprell’s Jebel Ali yard became fully operational in October 2002. The facility significantly expanded Lamprell’s capacity for large-scale offshore fabrication and complex EPC projects.
2003
The Jebel Ali facility completes its first ever load-out and Lamprell delivers its first FPSO modules for SBM to ExxonMobil’s Zafiro field in West Africa
2005
In response to quayside limitations at Port Khalid, Lamprell secured its first temporary Hamriyah Free Zone yard. This facility enabled larger offshore construction projects and supported continued growth in rig and EPC activity. Lamprell operated in this facility until the larger facility was fully developed in 2011.
2006
The first Friede & Goldman Super M2 new build jack-up contract is awarded to MIS, which later became part of Lamprell following its acquisition in 2011. The combined group went on to deliver seven such rigs between 2009 and 2012.
Lamprell fabricates and delivers distinctive green process modules for Pemex’s Ku Maloob Zaap FPSO in the Bay of Campeche, supporting a major offshore oil development in Mexico.
Lamprell fabricates and delivers three topside modules for offshore platforms from its Jebel Ali facility for the British Gas Panna field, marking its first major delivery into Indian waters.
Three large gas compression barges are fabricated and delivered for the Kashagan field, in the northern Caspian Sea, representing one of Lamprell’s largest projects at the time.
Lamprell lists on London’s AIM market, securing capital to support continued growth and diversification.
2007

Lamprell enters the offshore wind market in 2007 with the award of its first two self-propelled jack-up vessels for Seajacks. Two further vessels for Seajacks and two for Fred. Olsen Windcarrier follow in subsequent years, bringing the total delivered to six.
2008
Lamprell opened its Hamriyah facility in 2008 across the Hamriyah channel in Sharjah, establishing what would become the company’s principal fabrication yard. Spanning approximately 800,000 square metres with over 1.25 kilometres of quayside, the purpose-built site was designed to support large-scale offshore construction and serial rig production.
Lamprell moves from AIM to the London Stock Exchange main market, entering the FTSE 250 and the UK’s mid-cap index.
Over time, the Hamriyah facility expanded to accommodate a broad range of fabrication, assembly and load-out activities for oil & gas and offshore wind projects. Today, the facility remains central to Lamprell’s operations, housing extensive fabrication shops, blasting and painting facilities and pipe fabrication capabilities. It is also home to the company’s serial production line for offshore wind components.
2009
Lamprell opened a temporary facility in Thailand between 2009 and 2010 to support regional rig refurbishment and offshore work, marking the company’s first operational presence outside the Middle East.

The MIS acquisition also brought several specialised service businesses into the group, including engineering company Litwin and safety services provider Sunbelt H2S Safety Services, expanding Lamprell’s capabilities across engineering, safety and oilfield support services.
The Dubai Investments Park (DIP) facility was inherited as part of the MIS acquisition and developed into a dedicated land rig services centre.
